Artist Statement
Francesca Garofano
I began working with glass in 2018 as an apprentice to a soft glass worker while attending high school. Ever since i was a child i was crafting jewelry in whatever medium i could get my hands on. As i devoted myself more and more to the craft my skills grew to meet my dreams. Flameworking feels like an extension of myself, a way to express myself and bring the ideas of whimsical magic to life. I’d describe my art as delicate, beautiful, impermanent and individualistic. I've created all my pieces with the intention to simply bring a little dash of happiness into people's lives. Mixing the aspects that make fine jewelry fine while using a material so many people past in their everyday lives without a second thought. I like to craft beautiful things that nearly anyone can obtain and enjoy. I place strong vales on technical skills, making it a mission of mine to produce only the heist quality of goods possible.
The Struggle in Struggle Glass in a homage to my humble beginnings. As a female artist in a male dominated industry it was hard at time to feel confident in my capabilities, especially as a jewelry artist learning from the pipe scene. I spend a lot of time confused and frustrated. It wasn’t until i accepted the struggle of it all that I saw true growth and blossomed into the artist i am today. A mantra ill say to myself the i’m feeling defeated is “everyone relates to the struggle”, that always helps me tighten my boots and push through . I hope i can live my whole life pursuing my passion and bringing a little magic into peoples lives.
